OUR MISSION
“To empower individuals to champion their own rights through non-judgemental, unbiased advocacy, bridging communication barriers so that community voice is heard and presentation to make the rights of Territorians a reality”Attacking the various obstacles that stand between your rights and your remedies
AdvocateNT, a Northern Territory-based advocate for older Australians, working with Elder Abuse Action Australia (EAAA), a national body fighting older person abuse through advocacy, education, and policy to ensure dignity and safety for older people. EAAA provides resources for understanding, preventing, and responding to older person abuse, while AdvocateNT champions these causes locally in the NT.
What is Elder Abuse Action Australia (EAAA)?
A peak national organisation focused on eliminating abuse of older people.
Works on advocacy, policy, best practices, and education.
Offers resources for individuals and organisations to prevent and respond to abuse.
What is AdvocateNT?
A local voice in the Northern Territory for issues affecting older Territorians, affiliated with EAAA.
Highlights local efforts and connects with services like Darwin Community Legal Services (DCLS).
Advocate Northern Territory has a special interest in workplace abuse and is collecting case studies that related to “lived experiences” of those who have suffered or are suffering from abuse in employment.
How We Work Together:
EAAA provides a national framework, while AdvocateNT implements and promotes it in the NT.
We collaborate to ensure older Australians, especially those in the NT, have the support and resources to live free from harm, covering financial, physical, psychological, and other forms of abuse.
Purpose: The EAAA SPARK network, focuses on strengthening advocacy and support, especially for older people in remote areas.
Role in Advocacy: SPARK representatives like Craig Hubbard often engage in direct, on–ground advocacy, such as visiting various services to support older people.
Focus Areas: EAAA focuses on preventing abuse, educating the public, and providing resources to combat elder abuse, with 2026 conference themes like “Stand Up, Speak Out”. AdvocateNT extends this advocacy through lived experience to include workplace abuse that impacts older workers.
In summary, AdvocateNT represents a local presence working with a national movement (EAAA) to protect older people from abuse in Australia, especially in the Northern Territory.
As an Advocacy we first raise concerns that seniors raise with us to the attention of the organization involved, should this not be addressed than we formally request escalation and or formally engage with appropriate government ministers (local and federal). The last resort is to contact the media.
Advocate Northern Territory is not aligned with any political party; we expect support for Territorians from every politician and senator who is elected to represent the Northern Territory
We listen to our community and advocate for issues that impact the well-being of our community
