When advocating for your rights, entitled services, ageism, discrimination, abuse organisations that claim to be on your side may in fact turn against you, they may be part of the problem, they may be adhering to a negative or harmful culture, they may simply dismiss you and hope that you will go away.

They may attempt to bully you or conceal information that you have a right to have access.

It is absolutely critical that organisations respect your rights.

Hints:

  • Document everything: date time who and where.
  • Give the other party every chance to satisfy your concern, complaint, feedback.
  • If you receive no response or a response that is unsatisfactory then ask that your concerns, complaint or feedback be escalated.
  • If the organisation still does not provide a suitable response then start to investigate community legal advice.
  • Form government agencies, contact your Ministers, MLA’s and let them know what actions or expectations are expected.

Stand up, speak out. Because silence is never the solution
