EAAA’s SPARK member in the Northern Territory, Craig Hubbard, recently visited Darwin Community Legal Services (DCLS) and met with Ramnik Walia and Eduardo Sparrenberger. Craig shared highlights of a productive meeting focused on elder abuse in the Northern Territory.

“Significant work has been done in relation to Senior Abuse Policy,” Craig said. “DCLS have an absolutely awesome team working in this space, including people representing advocacy in communities.”
The meeting underscored some of the distinct challenges in remote areas, where elder abuse often intersects with access issues and service gaps. As Craig noted, “In many areas related to seniors in the NT, we appear to have some very specific weaknesses, particularly in remote regions.”

Craig’s visit marks the beginning of a promising collaboration. He looks forward to strengthening the relationship between EAAA and DCLS, and to building a broader network of connections across the Northern Territory to support older people at risk of or experiencing abuse.

You can read DCLS’s recent submission to the NT Government which outlines the key issues and reforms needed in this space. We’re very grateful to Craig for his advocacy and energy, and DCLS for their ongoing leadership in the Territory.
