Australia's tobacco war impacts public health

The continuous Increases in tobacco excise tax has created huge illegal supply chain for profitability of criminal groups.

Significant reduction of sales of ‘legal’ cigarettes impacts collection of tax and therefore revenue that should be directed at health services for all Australians.

Essentially, ‘legal’ cigarettes are not competitive with illegal cigarettes.

Policing illegal tobacco imports incurrs a huge cost to the taxpayer while tobacco excise tax declines = ineffective use of tax revenue.

Australia has lost its public health duty

Smoking kills causes horrific health issues and kills people either directly or indirectly, yet our politicians are so focused on trying to address illegal tobacco that they have prohibited the most effective tobacco harm reduction products.

Help smokers quit smoking is the solution

The most effective solution to attack illegal tobacco products and support a lower burden on our struggling public health systems to support significantly lower risk alternatives that are attractive to smokers to reduce demand of legal AND illegal tobacco products such as nicotine vapes using non-tobacco flavours.

Smoking cessation will significantly lower public health demand caused by smoking over time and eventually make harmful combustible tobacco products obsolete and provides an easy transition for smokers.

Government expenditure on tobacco related health issues declines and allow other taxes to fill the tax revenue bucket.
